In Friday 13th January we enjoyed our French wow day.  We enjoyed tasting lots of French foods, worked in teams to build the Eiffel Tower and wrote letters to children in a French school.

We are also continuing to learn the French language.  Currently we are practicing how to say the alphabet and continuing to learn about french monuments.

Pizza Express

As part of our cooking topic we took a trip to Pizza Express where we enjoyed making our very own pizzas.

Here we are listening to the manager explain how important it is to wash our hands, wear and apron and cover our hair.

After, we were each given a piece of dough.  We had a flour covered surface to prevent it from sticking when kneading it.

Using the tips of our fingers we gently pushed the corners of the dough outwards until it was stretched to double its size.

Some children managed to toss their pizza dough high up into the air.  Look carefully at the picture below.

Then, we pressed it into the tin,

 and added tomato sauce.

Finally we sprinkled mozzarella cheese on the top.

Then they were stacked ready for the pizza oven.

Thank you Chef Marco for our tasty pizzas :)

A visit from RSPB

We were very lucky to enjoy a visit from the RSPB Bristol.  Three volunteers came into school and taught us about the wildlife in and around our school grounds.

We learnt all about different types of trees as well as insects and other small animals.

If you would like learn more about what the RSPB do them visit their website.

The Roman Baths

As part of our topic we visited the Roman Baths.  It was an amazing trip full of history and Roman culture.

Here we are with David, an expert on the history of the Roman Baths.  We looked at some artefacts.  We took it in turns guessing the name of each artefact, what it might be used for and how old it was.

We also found some Roman pottery.

What do you think the children could see through the glass floor?

One of our activities was to role playing working in a shop.  Some of the children used Roman coins to buy items during a visit to a Roman baths.

Continuing to use their maths knowledge of the children read the Roman numerals on the clock face to identify that it was almost time for lunch.

We also enjoyed sketching the baths and the pillars surrounding it.  Can you see all the steam coming from the hot springs below the baths?

The Romans

As part of our Topic we made Roman shields.  The children decided on the colour of their shield and we agreed on the shape and armored effect on the front.

We made our very own Roman legion tortoise formation.
